■ Corrigendumとerratumって違うの?
Nature Neuroscience 9月号に出た"High-resolution imaging reveals highly selective nonface clusters in the fusiform face area" Kalanit Grill-Spector, Rory Sayres & David RessのCorrigendumが出ました。ていうかCorrigendumとerratumと別枠であるんですね。知らなかった。wikipediaで見ると両者同じ扱いだけど、Nature Neuroscienceでこの9月号の目次を見ると、Corrigendumとerratumの両方があります。区別がわかりません。どちらもタイポのレベルの訂正だし。

もとの話はhigh resolution fMRIでFFAを調べたらfaceに選択性のある領域に紛れてnon-faceにも強い選択性を持つ領域があった。これまでの解像度ではそれは平均化されて見逃していたのだ、という話でした。
しかし、かつて一緒に論文を出したこともあるNancy Kanwisherのところから"Does the fusiform face area contain subregions highly selective for nonfaces?"が出てきて、脳の外を使ったノイズのデータでも同様なnon-faceのselectivityが出せてしまうことが指摘され、Alex Martinは"Measuring selectivity in fMRI data"でnormalizationの仕方が悪いのでselectivityをoverestimateしていること、さらにより適正なnormalizationを使って自前のデータを解析したらselectivityがなくなったことを示しています。
というわけで、Kalanit Grill-Spectorはオリジナルのデータのfig.4とfig.8は正しくないことをこのcorrigendumで表明したというわけです。他の結果は変わらないらしいけど、この論文のmain result (non-faceへのselectivity)をsupportするのがこのfig.4なので、ほとんど結論を撤回したとしか思えません。生きのこったfig.6-7はnon-face selectiveパッチの存在をサポートするものではありません。
ま、詳しく読んでみないと本当のところはわからないですけど、って恫喝訴訟に備えたかのようなフレーズを付け加えてみたりして(<-お！時事ネタ！)。

のところに表記を見つけました。Erratumはpublisherによるエラーで、Corrigendumはauthorによるエラー、ということですね。知らなかった。
さらに探してみたところ、"Nature journals' correction and retraction policy"

でCorrigendumなのかRetractionなのかの判断基準を見つけました。
"Retractions are judged according to whether the main conclusion of the paper no longer holds or is seriously undermined as a result of subsequent information coming to light of which the authors were not aware at the time of publication."
これを見ると、main resultであるかどうかが争点となるべきところであるように思いました。
